Description: Drass to namikla pass.. Namika La or Namika Pass,Pillar of the Sky Pass, is a high mountain pass in the Himalayas Zaskar Range in India along the Srinagar-Leh highway. Namika La is one of two high passes between Kargil and Leh, the other is the even higher Fotu La Pass. Land of the Passes’ as it is said - Ladakh is blessed with a number of beautiful and attractive passes. This is perhaps one sole reason why the endurance traveller always seeks for adventure in these regions. Namikala Pass, or Namika Pas, is a high mountain pass located at a height of 3,700 meters along the Srinagar-Leh Highway. It is famous among the mountain passes of Ladakh because it is one of the highest passes between Leh and Kargil. The primary attraction here is the landscape which is typical of the region, with brown mountains which are cut by serpentine trails. It is a good place to stop & enjoy some photography. Namika La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.823m (12,542ft) above the sea level, located in the Himalayas Zaskar Range in India. The road to the summit, also known as Namika Pass and Pillar of the Sky Pass, is called NH 1D Srinagar-Leh highway, a road with a fresh thick layer of tarmac. The road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting). Once you cross the pass you can admire the breathtaking view of the lush green surroundings and snow-covered peaks. Its many twists, turns and narrows can pose a challenge to even the most experienced drivers. The road is not easy, though. Up, down, right, left all the time. Driving at night, or in poor visibility, is not recommended for drivers unfamiliar with the road. This road has innumerable twists and turns. It’s one of the most impressive and important passes and one of the highest passes between Leh and kargil. It is a must visit place in Ladakh and it is also the last pass before entering the Kargil region. Due to the high elevations and exposure, the road is subject to strong winds and rapid weather changes. Be prepared for the cold and wind! High winds blow here all year long. The climate is too harsh that the area is barren, there is no greenery nor life. The pass is located on a completely deserted weathered ridge – it looks like a lunar landscape. Even in summer you can confront with snowy days. Temperatures here in the winter are brutally cold. Ladakh and the way from Kargil reaching Leh are blessed with an ample number of small and large passes and one of the major on the route is Namika La pass located at a height of 12198 feet. Since it poses an adventurous ride, travelers love to take a ride through Namika La pass especially the adventurers who are on their Manali Leh Srinagar bike expedition. A plethora of natural attractions can be viewed from the top and this is very close to Srinagar-Leh highway as well. I am riding on Xpulse 200 my customised bike with side panniers. For my long and adventurous ride. Be simple be natural.. Keep riding with life... Hope you will the enjoy these sceneries with me.
